Biography

Dr. Edward "Lee" Poythress obtained his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville, Virginia in1993. In 1996 he completed his residency in Internal Medicine and then a Geriatric Fellowship in 1999 at Baylor College of Medicine before joining as a faculty member in the department of Internal Medicine at Ben Taub General Hospital in 2000. Dr. Poythress, currently as Associate Professor of Medicine, was named Director of the Wound Care Clinic at Ben Taub General Hospital (BTGH) in 2004. He has expanded clinical services to include a separate diabetic foot Osteomyelitis Clinic and has also developed a lecture series that is given to the internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and emergency medicine residency programs and to the faculty at all of the outpatient community clinics within the Harris Health System. Over the past 20 years, the medical students have honored his educational efforts with numerous teaching awards including the Outstanding Faculty Award, the Outstanding Faculty Educator Award, and recently, he was inducted into the Baylor College of Medicine, Medical School Teaching Hall of Fame.
