Biography

Dr. Sutherland is Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Sutherland’s clinical and research activities focus on patients with asthma and COPD. At National Jewish he actively participates in the care of patients with lung disease and directs a clinical and translational research program. The principal focus of his research group is on identifying mechanisms by which obesity alters phenotype and prognosis in asthma. Additional research efforts are aimed at evaluating mechanisms of steroid insensitivity in asthma and COPD, exploring the lung microbiome in asthma, and on conducting clinical trials as part of the NIH-funded AsthmaNet research network.
