Biography

Barbara W. Trautner, MD, PhD, is an infectious diseases clinician-investigator at Baylor College of Medicine and the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, affiliated with the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness, and Safety (IQuESt). Dr. Trautner currently serves as Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Clinical Research and Director for Network of Dedicated Enrollment Sites (NODES) at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. Dr. Trautner has two productive branches of investigation, one in health services research and one in microbiology translational research, both linked by a unifying focus on urinary tract infection (UTI). She is currently co-chairing the Infectious Diseases Society of America clinical practice guidelines panel on management of urinary tract infections (UTI). Dr. Trautner is passionate about animals, even very small ones (bacteria) and thus is a champion of using antibiotics only when needed.
