Pain Management in Primary Care: Translating Principles into Practice

Pain Management in Primary Care: Translating Principles into Practice is a live, REMS-compliant educational activity designed for primary care clinicians. This expert-led, case-based program integrates real-world clinical scenarios, including patient counseling and risk mitigation strategies, to support practical application of safe and effective pain management principles.

Recognizing the unique dynamics of live learning, this activity is intentionally structured to optimize information uptake within a real-time format.

Upon completion, learners will be able to: define key pain mechanisms and classifications; assess pain and identify risk factors for nonmedical opioid use and OUD; evaluate nonpharmacologic and non-opioid therapies; review appropriate opioid use and limitations; safely initiate, adjust, and discontinue opioid therapy; counsel patients on safe use, storage, disposal, and overdose reversal; develop individualized pain management plans; and diagnose and manage opioid use disorder using evidence-based strategies and referral pathways.
