Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading cause of death globally. An effort to reduce the mortality risk to patients must include prevention and optimal treatment of patients with the greatest individual and combined risk factors including hypertension and hyperlipidemia, as well as other comorbid conditions that contribute to cardiovascular health. This module is intended to:

  • Improve awareness and understanding of ASCVD management
    • Increase optimal management of highest-risk ASCVD patients including those with metabolic syndrome or diabetes, >65 years of age, recent acute coronary syndrome (ACS) within the past 12 months, hypertension, chronic kidney disease (CKD), inflammatory diseases (eg, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, HIV), higher risk ethnicities, current smoking, history of congestive heart failure, etc.
  • Improve identification, management and referral of advanced disease patients and patients with risk enhancers (diabetes, hypertension, smoking)
