Continuous glucose monitoring

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is at the forefront of new diabetes technologies and can lead to improved care for many people with Type I and Type II Diabetes. However, the expanding diabetes market challenges primary care clinicians to keep up with guidelines on how and when to use personal and professional CGM devices. This session, developed in partnership with the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES), will educate clinicians on how to identify people who are candidates for CGM, interpret CGM data, and adjust treatment plans, while effectively involving patients in these decisions. These practical strategies and insights for using CGM will help transform this new technology from a specialty-based tool to an integral part of diabetes management in the primary care setting. Please note that any data, indications, and guidelines presented in this activity are current as of the recording/release on 9/10/20, and they are subject to change as new information is published.


Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is at the forefront of new diabetes technologies and can lead to improved care for many people, but the expanding market challenges primary care clinicians to keep up with guidelines on how and when to use personal and professional CGM devices. This curriculum, developed in partnership with the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES), will educate clinicians on how to identify people who are candidates for CGM, interpret CGM data, and adjust treatment plans, while effectively involving patients in these decisions. These practical strategies and insights for using CGM will help transform this new technology from a specialty-based tool to an integral part of diabetes management in the primary care setting. You can earn up to 1.5 CME/CE credits in total by completing all 3 of the modules in this curriculum. Two podcasts are also included that are designed to share with patients who want to know more about CGM; they do not qualify for CME/CE credit. This curriculum includes: • A series of 3 text-based adaptive learning modules (~30 minutes each) • 2 Patient education podcasts (~15-20 minutes each)

This module will test your knowledge and provide unique feedback based on your question responses until you are answering confidently and correctly. Topics covered in this module include how to identify patients who would benefit from CGM (with a focus on people with type 2 diabetes), what type of CGM devices are currently available, and how to decide which CGM system is best for individual patients.

In the second of three modules on continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), this activity is engineered with adaptive learning technology to personalize your education. This module will test your knowledge and provide unique feedback based on your question responses. Topics to be covered include an explanation of the types of data obtained with CGM, the components of the ambulatory glucose profile (AGP) report and how to interpret this information for individualized diabetes management.

This module will test your knowledge and give you unique feedback based on your question responses until you are answering confidently and correctly. Using real patient case scenarios, this module will review ambulatory glucose profile (AGP) reports obtained from CGM devices and discuss how to apply their data in the management of diabetes (with a focus on type 2 diabetes).
