Overview
This session covers the diagnosis and management of Alzheimer's disease and other common dementias, including Lewy body dementia and LATE. Learners will review NIA-AA criteria, when to order biomarkers including new plasma markers, emerging disease-modifying therapies lecanemab and donanemab, and practical approaches to driving, agitation, diet, and exercise
Learning Objectives
- Apply the NIA-AA Criteria to diagnosis Alzheimer’s disease dementia (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to AD
- Explain the role of biomarkers, including new plasma markers, in the diagnosis of AD and other common dementias, including dementia with Lewy bodies
- Discuss LATE (Limbic-predominant, Age-related, TDP-43 Encephalopathy)
- Describe the use of lecanemab (Leqembi) and donanemab (Kisunla) in the management of AD
- Develop strategies to manage agitation and driving safety in patients with dementia, and discuss the data on diet and exercise for memory
