Overview

This session addresses how ADHD manifests across the lifespan, including emotional dysregulation, executive dysfunction, and psychiatric comorbidities. Learners will examine neurobiological mechanisms, apply validated assessment tools, and evaluate the evidence behind current and emerging pharmacologic therapies to develop individualized, patient-centered management plans.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify patients who warrant ADHD evaluation by recognizing the full clinical presentation across the lifespan, including emotional dysregulation, executive dysfunction, functional impairment, and common psychiatric comorbidities
  • Implement practical assessment and follow-up strategies, including the use of validated screening and monitoring tools, to support accurate diagnosis, assess symptom burden, and track treatment response
  • Describe how dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin interactions drive ADHD symptoms and overall disease burden, and use this understanding to evaluate the benefits and limitations of current pharmacologic treatments
  • Apply evidence on current and emerging ADHD therapies to guide individualized, patient-centered management plans
