Biography
Hudson Santos, PhD, RN, was appointed Dean of the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) in 2024. Since then, he has advanced a bold vision to position the school as a national leader in nursing education, research, and health innovation. Under his leadership, SONHS has deepened its integration with the University of Miami Health System and peer health systems across South Florida, expanded global partnerships, and elevated the visibility of nursing in shaping health policy and practice. An internationally recognized scholar, Dean Santos is a sought-after speaker on advancing the nursing workforce, integrating science into practice, and transforming the conditions that shape health. His research focuses on improving maternal–child health outcomes and identifying genomic drivers of health. He has secured more than $50 million in federal research funding and champions the translation of nursing science into measurable health impact at community and policy levels. Dean Santos is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL), and the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research (ABMR). He has served as President of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics and as Chair of the AAN’s National Advisory Council. His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the Sigma Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame. His work reflects a core belief: through teaching, research, and patient care, nurses have the power to transform lives and communities.
