Biography
Dr. Asantewaa Ture is an Assistant Professor of General Internal Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and serves as Health Equity/Advocacy Co-Leader for the Feinberg School of Medicine. She is also an Associate Program Director in Northwestern's Internal Medicine Residency Program, where she focuses on ambulatory curriculum development and community engagement. Dr. Ture is the course director for the Feinberg School of Medicine interactive module, "Do Words Matter: The Use of Stigmatizing Language in Medicine." She earned her MD from Rush University Medical Center and completed her internal medicine residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was selected as the Health Equity & Advocacy and VA Chief Resident for the 2023 - 2024 academic year. Her work has been recognized with multiple honors, including the John E. Franklin Commitment to Diversity Award and Dr. Emma Ann Reynolds Distinguished Community Impact Award. She is the founder of Northwestern's Department of Medicine Community Grand Rounds and co-founder of the Winter Coat Drive, as well as initiatives addressing food insecurity among vulnerable patient populations. Clinically, Dr. Ture is interested in patient-centered care coordination and management of acute and chronic adult illness. Her academic interests include curriculum development of topics related to health equity, advocacy, and social influencers of health. Her research interests include studying behavior changes that recenter patients such as the use of social history during morning rounds presentations and examining how stigmatizing language impacts patient care and clinical decision-making.
