New Mexico CME/CE Requirements

MD:
(5) hours of pain management/prescribing of controlled substances CME; should include a review of NM Medical Board Rule 16.10.14 NMAC on pain management; an understanding of the pharmacology and risks of controlled substances, a basic awareness of the problems of abuse, addiction and diversion, and awareness of state and federal regulations for the prescription of controlled substances (for all New Mexico medical board licensees who hold a federal DEA registration and a New Mexico controlled substances registration).
(1) hour of CME must be earned by reviewing the New Mexico Medical Practice Act and these board rules.

DO:
(6) CME credits in pain management (for those who possess a NM controlled substance license).

(8) hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder. This is a one-time requirement for all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders), beginning with DEA initial or renewal registrations starting June 27, 2023.

(5) hours of non-cancer pain management CE (to include a review of rules 16.12.9 NMAC for management of non-cancer pain, an understanding of the pharmacology and risks of controlled substances, a basic awareness of the problems of abuse, addiction and diversion, and awareness of state and federal regulations for the prescription of controlled substances).

(8) hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder. This is a one-time requirement for all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders), beginning with DEA initial or renewal registrations starting June 27, 2023.

2) a basic awareness of the problems of abuse, addiction and diversion;
3) awareness of state and federal regulations for the prescription of controlled substances;
4) management of the treatment of pain; and
5) courses may also include a review of this rule 16.10.14 NMAC.
