Introduction to Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) and an option for the treatment of HIV-1 in the Primary Care Setting
Industry Theater 1, Ballroom A4, Level 2
Description
Advances in antiretroviral therapy (ART) including regimens with improved efficacy and safety profiles for the treatment of HIV as compared to the early days of the HIV epidemic enable people with HIV to start guideline preferred ART on the same day of diagnosis and increase linkage to care. Simplified clinical treatment guidelines and frontline shortages of HIV treaters provide an opportunity for primary care providers (PCPs) to engage in HIV medical care and help end the HIV epidemic (EHE). This presentation will provide attendees with the current state of the HIV epidemic in the United States, introduce the role of PCPs to EHE and discuss the clinical trial data for a guideline recommended option for the treatment of HIV-1.
