Can't-Miss Infections in Primary Care
Description
Missing a high-risk infection in primary care can be devastating. In this interactive session, primary care providers navigate fast paced cases to detect red flags, apply evidence based diagnostic steps, and develop a framework for when to refer to the Emergency Department or Infectious Diseases. Live polls and focused Q&A will augment the learning.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize subtle (or not so subtle) red flag symptoms that distinguish high risk infections from routine presentations in the primary care setting
- Initiate appropriate, evidence based diagnostic tests and empiric therapies during the first patient encounter
- Determine criteria for when to escalate care, whether via emergency department referral or infectious diseases consultation, to reduce delays and improve patient outcomes
