Overview

Primary care practitioners (PCPs) must be vigilant in identifying infections that are uncommon but carry a high risk of serious illness, long-term complications, or death if missed. Crucial "can't-miss" infections include meningitis and necrotizing fasciitis. During this 60-minute lecture, you will learn how to identify severe infections and others that are commonly missed in clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize clinical presentations of infections that can’t be missed in clinical practice (eg, necrotizing fasciitis, meningitis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever)
  • Summarize diagnostic methods to confirm the presence of those diagnoses
  • Identify other common infections missed in primary care practice
