Pharmacology
This session will review the causes and management of insomnia. It will begin with an examination of normal sleep architecture. Then we will turn to discuss what comorbid medical or psychiatric conditions can themselves cause or exacerbate insomnia. Next, we will turn to a conceptualization of insomnia as a behavioral condition. This will naturally lead to a discussion of the non-pharmacological interventions that can be used to help patients who suffer from insomnia. Finally, we will conclude by discussing what pharmacological agents can be used to treat insomnia.
