Overview

This session focuses on managing difficult asthma and COPD patients in primary care setting. Using a case-based discussion, the session will walk through difficult to treat asthma and COPD patients, troubleshoot poor control and apply current GINA/GOLD recommendations to optimize therapy. The session will also discuss different pathways of escalating therapy to provide actionable strategies for most challenging patients.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate key clinical, physiologic, and radiologic features of asthma, COPD
  • Apply current GINA and GOLD recommendations to design stepwise treatment plans for patients with difficult-to-control asthma and COPD
  • Analyze common reasons for treatment failure in challenging asthma/COPD cases
  • Evaluate the role of advanced therapies, including triple inhaler therapy, biologics, and pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with frequent exacerbations
