Overview
This case-based lecture will review common neurologic conditions encountered in the outpatient setting, with a focus on applying the most current diagnostic criteria and evidence-based approaches to evaluation, management, and treatment. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing red flags, avoiding common diagnostic pitfalls, and optimizing patient-centered care.
Learning Objectives
- Identify key red flags in the evaluation of patients presenting with headache and determine when urgent or advanced workup is warranted. Apply evidence-based treatment strategies for the management of common primary headache disorders
- Integrate current and emerging therapeutic options for migraine into clinical practice
- Recognize, diagnose, and implement appropriate management strategies for common peripheral nerve disorders
- Differentiate Bell’s palsy from alternative diagnoses and identify clinical features that suggest a more serious underlying etiology requiring further evaluation
- Evaluate and treat patients presenting with dizziness by distinguishing between peripheral and central causes using a structured history, targeted physical examination and appropriate use of diagnostic studies.
